High Boundary Wall at Bunbury Churchyard, Bunbury. Stonework repair, core drilling and anchor installation.

Anchoring Case Study: Bunbury Churchyard, Bunbury

Client: Crewe-Nantwich Borough Council
Consultant: BDS Consultants (Chester)

Project Specification

A 7m long section of this 2.5-3m high boundary wall forms part of the cottage and extends a further 7.3m into the garden area and beyond. Retaining nearly to its full height this 14m long section was leaning over and was in some places 300mm out of vertical. The cottage owner sought a solution using anchors to stabilise the wall from further rotational movement, possible collapse and damage to the property.

Solution

Concrete Solutions Limited carried out all site works including the local repair of stonework, core drilling and anchor installation. 95mm diameter core holes were cut through the wall on calculated centres before anchors were installed to a driven depth of 5m. Each anchor was then loaded and locked off against the wall facing. The finishing touch was to install 5m runs of ‘Passive’ Plati-Drain ® to reduce some of the pore water pressure from behind the structure. The anchor installation was designed and indemnified through Platipus.

Anchor System: s08EB aluminium bronze anchor c/w 6m of 8mm Ø stainless steel wire tendon, 250mm Ø aluminium bronze inverted pattress plate, 8mm Ø stainless steel wedge grip and 4 x 5m single lengths of 'Passive' Plati-Drain.
