Anchoring Case Study: Latimer Drive, Crewe
Client: Wulvern Housing Limited
Consultant: BDS Consultants (Chester)
Project Specification
Two walls, one 30m long and one 15m long, were both found to be rotating between 20mm and up to as much as 80mm out of vertical which was enough to cause concern to the local residents. Remedial work was required to repair the cracked brickwork, provide additional drainage weep holes and with mechanical anchors stabilise the wall from further rotational movement and possible collapse.Solution
Thirty 95mm diameter core holes were cut through the wall on calculated centres before the anchors were installed to a driven depth of 4m. Each anchor was then loaded and locked off against the wall facing using a stainless steel load plate, tilt washer and recessed wedge grip. The finishing touch was a smooth stainless steel domed cap. The anchor installation was designed and indemnified through Platipus .
